WWE sets date for Io Shirai vs. Toni Storm NXT Women's title match

Toni Storm is getting a one-on-one shot at NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai.

Shirai will defend her NXT Women’s Championship against Storm on the NXT episode that’s taking place in two weeks (Wednesday, March 10). The match was announced after Storm confronted Shirai on NXT tonight.

Shirai retained the NXT Women’s Championship by defeating Storm and Mercedes Martinez in a triple threat match at TakeOver: Vengeance Day earlier this month. As Storm was pinning Martinez, Shirai flew in with a moonsault and pinned Martinez to get the win. There was then an angle that aired on last week’s NXT episode where Storm attacked Shirai during a photoshoot.

On tonight’s NXT, Shirai defeated Zoey Stark in a non-title match but was then confronted by Storm. After Storm said Shirai can’t beat her, Shirai said she’ll face Storm whenever she wants. Storm still claimed that Shirai is afraid of her and dared Shirai to prove her wrong by going to NXT general manager William Regal and making the match happen.

Shirai has been NXT Women’s Champion since defeating Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley in a triple threat match at TakeOver: In Your House in June 2020.
