WTA Brisbane Event to Have Increased Prize Money from 2020

Tennis – has announced that the prize money for the WTA Brisbane International has been increased starting from next year. Tennis Australia also announced that it has had initial discussions with the WTA Tour about adding a womens team competition in Australia after 2020.

The Brisbane event, which was won by Karolina Pliskova on Sunday attracted eight of the top 12 women in the world rankings. Brisbane is also hoping to secure the sudden-death ties in the ATP Cup, that have been allocated to Sydney for the first three years starting from 2020-2022.

Tourism Minister Kate Jones commented, We wanted to prioritise womens tennis and we want to own the first week of January with a womens tennis spectacular. We will have the best women in the world in Brisbane. TA head of major events Cameron Pearson spoke about the increase in prize money, which is currently about $1.4 million, and said, We will continue to increase prizemoney.
