Windsor Locks Wins Division V Boys Basketball Championship

UNCASVILLE, CT — Dan Copes graduated from Windsor Locks High School in 2000, and a year later, the Raider basketball team won its lone state championship. Fast forward a little more than two decades, and Copes found himself at the Mohegan Sun Arena Saturday, leading his alma mater into the Division V boys basketball championship game.

The outcome was as hoped for the top-seeded Raiders, as 16 converted free throws in the fourth quarter led them to a 69-58 victory over Shepaug Valley for the program’s second state crown.

After a relatively quiet first half which ended with his team down by two, Sincere Monroe of Windsor Locks took over after intermission. He scored the fist six Raider points of the third quarter, drained a 3-pointer and canned four free throws down the stretch to seal the victory. He wound up with 22 points.
