Two blasts in Nepal kill 3 and injure 5, security on high-alert

At least three people were killed and five injured in two explosions in Nepal’s capital on Sunday — with police suspecting an outlawed communist group as being behind the attacks.

The two blasts occurred about an hour apart in separate neighborhoods in Kathmandu, police official Shyam Lal Gyawali confirmed, with the first in the northern part of the city killing two and injuring four others, according to The Daily Express.

A second explosion killed one more and left another injured — with police believing the men in the house were tied to an outlawed group that had split from the ruling Communist party and become known for violence.

Officials say the found pamphlets there from the group whose members have been protesting recent arrests of their supporters.

Security forces were put on high alert and officers were patrolling key areas of Kathmandu.

The splinter communist group split from the Maoist party, which fought government troops from 1996 to 2006, when its members gave up their armed revolt to join a peace process and mainstream politics.
