Saints owner Gayle Benson paid for over 400 customers’ Walmart layaway orders

She’s a true Saint.

Gayle Benson, the owner of the New Orleans Saints and the New Orleans Pelicans, reportedly paid for more than 400 layaway orders at a local Walmart this week. The generous donation cost her around $100,000, WWLTV reported.

“This was a gift from Mrs. Benson for the holidays,” the Saints told the television station in a statement.

Shoppers are still being notified that their orders were already paid off, and those who found out are over the moon, store manager Zena Williams said.

“They’re coming in, and they’re calling their friends and family,” Williams told The Advocate. “They’re very excited. It’s a good thing. It’s a good thing for the community. It’s a good thing for the store.”

Benson became the owner of the Saints and the Pelicans after her husband, Tom’s, death this March. He was 90 years old.
