Rod Laver: 'Djokovic, Nadal, Federer are the Australian Open favorites'

In an interview to the Courier Mail the Australian legend commented on the upcoming Australian Open. Laver agreed that is the favorite to lift the mens singles trophy, but at the same time he warned that you cannot have one man really dominating tennis nowadays over the others, especially at the best of five sets.

I actually dont see it happening because youve got some many great players, said Laver. The depth is so strong nowadays. Youve got the four guys whove been at top so long in Djokovic, Roger Federer, (Rafael) Nadal and (Andy) Murray.

Then youve got the young players like Alexander Zverev and a new crop coming through. If Im gonna pick someone, Im gonna pick Djokovic to win a Grand Slam. But if he makes one little mistake and hes playing Federer or hes playing Nadal, hes in trouble.

Youve just got to be fortunate to make it all happen. But you only have to win seven matches to win a tournament and if you put that in the back of your head, thats how I broke it down. To do it four times in the one year at the grand slams is a big challenge.

Laver, who turned 80 last year, added: I have to figure Djokovic has to be favoured. I think Djokovic, Nadal and Roger are the ones. ALSO READ: Rafael Nadal: Worse players than David Ferrer won a Grand Slam title
