Michael Conforto was activated from the injured list and played for the first time since suffering a concussion on May 16. The outfielder went 0-for-3 with a walk in Sunday’s 4-3 win over the Tigers at Citi Field.
To make room for Conforto, the Mets designated Rajai Davis for assignment, “with the hopes that nobody claims him, and he remains in the organization,” according to Mickey Callaway.
Davis appeared in four games with the Mets and delivered one of the season’s most memorable moments with Wednesday’s eighth-inning, three-run homer, following an unexpected call-up and 112-mile Uber ride from Pennsylvania.

Recent call-up Aaron Altherr could not be optioned to the minors.
“I think we want to see a little bit of what Altherr can do,” Callaway said of the decision. “It’s a tough decision. You go back and forth, and you try to come to the best conclusion. It’s not always easy. We don’t have a crystal ball, but we do the best we can with the information we have and try to keep our depth as much as possible.”
Relievers Paul Sewald and Tim Peterson cleared waivers after being designated for assignment, and were outrighted to Triple-A Syracuse.
