Premier League Relegation Odds: Everton 8/1 to go down after firing Silva

The blue half of Merseyside have not been relegated from the top-flight in almost 70 years but defeat at Liverpool dropped them into the bottom three

Everton are 8/1 (9.0) to be relegated after firing Marco Silva on Thursday afternoon following a disastrous run of results.

The Toffees have lost eight of their last 11 Premier League games, culminating in a 5-2 defeat at deadly rivals Liverpool on Wednesday which proved to be the final straw for the club’s hierarchy.

Silva took charge of Everton in May 2018 and guided them to an eighth-place finish last season, but despite heavy investment in the likes of Alex Iwobi and Moise Kean, the club are languishing in the relegation zone after 15 games this time around.

Despite Everton picking up just seven points from their last 11 outings, bet365 still only make them 10th in the outright relegation betting market.

Norwich and Watford are joint-favourites at 2/7 (1.28), with the Hornets seven points from safety and the Canaries four points back from Southampton in 17th.

bet365 offer 11/4 (3.75) that Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men drop into the Championship with Aston Villa available at the same price, ahead of Newcastle (3/1), West Ham (4/1) and Bournemouth (4/1).

Everton have not been relegated from the top-flight since 1951 and are just 1/12 (1.08) to extend their stay by at least another year, although a bottom-half finish is priced at 1/2 (1.50).

That would mark only the third time in 14 seasons that the Toffees have placed below 10th in the Premier League, and even with the table as tight as it is outside the top four, a vast amount of uninspiring performances this term may see them struggle for a top-half place.

Punters who believe they can turn around their poor start to the campaign can get 13/8 (2.63) on them finishing inside the top-10 for the fourth season in a row.

Silva’s replacement, then, certainly has a tricky job on his hands – especially considering the run of games Everton have coming up.

They are out at 5/2 (3.50) with bet365 to beat Chelsea on Saturday, the first of a series of tricky games that includes a trip to Old Trafford, the visits of Arsenal and Burnley, and Manchester City away on New Year’s Day.
