DANVILLE, CA — About 40,000 people braved the sweltering heat to celebrate America and their community Thursday for the Danville-Kiwanis 4th of July Parade.

The parade, which has rolled through Downtown Danville each July 4 since 1975, registered 107 entries this year, which included almost 2,000 participants and more than 160 vehicles, according to the Kiwanis Club.
The theme of the parade was “Celebrating Businesses in the San Ramon Valley,” and its Grand Marshal was Marcia Harmon, the owner of Cottage Jewel, a one-of-a-kind antiques store that the East Bay Times named the best boutique in the East Bay in April.

Funds raised by the parade go to charities throughout the region.
“The parade is organized by the Kiwanis Club of San Ramon Valley, with support from the Town as co-host. Their members and volunteers dedicate countless hours to producing this parade for the Danville Community, as they have since 1975. Despite the heat, the organizers and members of the public came together Thursday for the kind of traditional, small-town parade that you almost can’t find anymore,” said Danville spokesperson Jenn Starnes.
