Odell Beckham Jr. more than OK with playing the spoiler
Spoiler alert: Odell Beckham Jr. doesn’t want to go down alone.
“If our season’s over, I’m making sure somebody else is coming home with us,” Beckham said Thursday. “The goal is to win all these games and see what happens, but if not, you’re going to have a tough game to play against us the last four games.”
The Giants (4-8) still have a slim shot at making the playoffs, but they can have plenty of say in who else gets there. That starts Sunday against the Redskins (6-6), who are trying to keep pace with the first-place Cowboys (7-5) in the NFC East.
After the Redskins come the Titans and Colts, who are both vying for AFC wild cards, before the Cowboys come to MetLife Stadium in Week 17 and serious postseason implications could be on the line.
Since Beckham said the Giants could win eight straight to close out the season, they have won three of four. The lone loss came to the Eagles, a blown lead that Beckham said he hopes is “not the one that’s going to haunt us.”
Beckham, meanwhile, was still buzzing about his touchdown pass against the Bears.
“There’s no feeling like throwing a touchdown pass,” he said. “Catching one is cool, but throwing one is a lot more special.”
And if Russell Shepard hadn’t been so wide open for the 49-yard TD?
“I wouldn’t throw it away. I don’t want to mess up my perfect QBR,” said Beckham, who is now 2-for-2 for 106 yards and two touchdowns this season.
A day after Eli Manning said he was just waiting for his opportunity to show off his own hurdle, Saquon Barkley backed him up.
“When he gets that chance and he breaks loose, I’ll make sure I block my butt off just so that can happen and can see that play,” Barkley said with a mostly straight face. “I believe he can do it, and it would be legendary once he pulls it off.”
In case his hurdle wasn’t enough of an indication, Barkley was not worried about hitting a rookie wall.
“I really don’t believe in it, to be honest,” he said.
The Giants officially placed Landon Collins, set for surgery on his partially torn labrum, on injured reserve. Safety Kenny Ladler was signed from the practice squad to take his spot.
The Giants also signed punter Brock Miller to the practice squad so they could get work against a left-footed punter this week before facing one Sunday in Tress Way.
LB Lorenzo Carter (hip), TE Evan Engram (hamstring) and WR Sterling Shepard (ribs) were all full practice participants. LB Tae Davis (ankle) did not practice again while LB B.J. Goodson (neck/foot) was limited.
Veteran RB Jonathan Stewart was not activated from injured reserve before Thursday’s deadline, ending his season. … Safety Michael Thomas was named the Giants’ Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee.
