NY lawmakers to hold hearing on sexual harassment

ALBANY, N.Y. — New York lawmakers are holding a hearing on sexual harassment and what the state can do to combat the widespread problem in the public and private sectors.

The Democrat-led Legislature held a similar, day-long hearing in February, the first of its kind in nearly 30 years.

Friday’s follow-up hearing in Manhattan comes at the urging of ex-legislative aides who reported harassment by their former bosses.

The group had pushed for legislative hearings on harassment for several years and says more legislation is needed to stop harassment and ensure complaints are taken seriously.

Any new proposals will have to be acted on quickly if lawmakers hope to pass them before their annual session ends next month.
