Norwalk Leaders' New Year's Resolutions For 2025
NORWALK, CT — As 2024 comes to a close and Norwalk gets ready to ring in the new year, many residents will likely find themselves making a list of resolutions for when the clock strikes midnight on Jan. 1.
In light of this, Patch reached out to various leaders throughout the city and asked what their new year’s resolution was for Norwalk, or their department, in 2025.

Mayor Harry Rilling
“Every day, the city of Norwalk strives to provide our residents with the services they need and deserve to enhance livability, and I’m proud of the progress we continue to make. In 2025, my top priorities include continuing to invest in our schools, making Norwalk the greenest city in CT, enhancing quality of life for our residents, keeping taxes as low as possible, continuing to keep crime down, supporting our business community and increasing transparency to improve services for residents.”

Superintendent Alexandra Estrella
“With new beginnings on the horizon, I resolve to lead with a renewed commitment to unity, empathy and the celebration of differences. In Norwalk Public Schools, we know that our collective strength lies in our community’s diversity. I invite all members of our Norwalk community and beyond to join me in this resolution. Together, we can make 2025 a year of growth, learning and shared success.”
Town Clerk Richard McQuaid
“I believe we all need to learn how to laugh a little more, listen a little more, respect each other a little more. We are all different in our own ways, sometimes even quirky. We can agree to disagree but bullies can find another village to be the idiots in. Take some time in 2025 to dance in the rain…peace.”
Greater Norwalk Chamber President Shannon O’Toole Giandurco
“As we welcome the new year, my resolution is to continue fostering an environment where new businesses can establish themselves and thrive in Norwalk, while providing support to the incredible businesses that already call our city home. Together, we’ll ensure Norwalk remains a vibrant hub for growth and opportunity. Here’s to a successful 2025 for all!”
Common Council Member (District D) Heather Dunn
“In 2025, my focus will be on working to make Norwalk a more inclusive city. I am so proud to have been chosen, as an Independent, to serve as the minority leader. I feel strongly that all people need to have their ideas and concerns heard, even if they are in the minority. I would like to see a greater diversity of ideas when it comes to addressing things like quality of life issues, our children’s education, the development that is taking place, and how we can be the most fiscally responsible. I want to continue working to remove barriers to participation by creating positive communication channels for the city’s disenfranchised. Norwalk’s future depends on every one of us working together, and I am looking forward to doing my part.”
Fire Chief Gino Gatto
“There are a few ‘resolutions’ that I would like to see in 2025.
Additional firefighters hired, apparatus that was ordered last year could still be 2 more years out.
My biggest wish is for the city to approve the addition/renovation of Station 4, 180 Westport Ave. Currently, this station houses 1 Fire Engine with 4 Firefighters on duty. The addition/renovation will allow for 1 Fire Engine and 1 Ladder Truck with 8 Firefighters on duty. This will allow for a more equal distribution of current resources, while providing proper air quality management and asbestos removal.”
