Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios had only kind words to say about fellow compatriot Bernard Tomic after their Priceline Pharmacy Kooyong Classic clash. Tomic, 26, won the first-ever clash between the two as he handed a 6-3 6-4 loss to 23-year-old Kyrgios.
The 26-year-old controlled the pace and points from the start until the end of the match. Tomic, ranked at No. 85 in the world, finished the match in style as he hit a tweener underarm serve ace. Kyrgios and Tomics relationship appeared to be damaged after the 26-year-old accused the 23-year-old of faking illness in order to avoid playing for Australian against the United States in a 2016 Davis Cup tie.
However, when asked about the relationship between the two before their clash, Kyrgios said there is no bad blood at all between them. I dont think there has ever been a player like BT, Kyrgios told SBS post-match, per the AAP.
Tomic hit the rock bottom in 2017 as his career appeared to be in jeopardy. The 26-year-old also didnt make a promising start to 2018 as he plummeted to No. 243 in the world in May last year. However, Tomic finished the 2018 season on good terms as he won the Chengdu Open file and returned to the top-100.
It is great to see him back out here as I know he was going through some rough times, Kyrgios added. He won a title last year and it looks like he is carrying a bit of momentum which is good to see.
