New Roundabout Completed At Redding & Dunham Roads In Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, CT — With construction completed on the new traffic roundabout at the intersection of Redding and Dunham roads, Fairfield and state officials, Fairfield government department heads and residents held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday at the Greenfield Hill site.

Modeled after similar roundabouts throughout Europe, officials believe the Redding/Dunham roundabout will help slow down traffic through the area, in addition to improving lines of sight issues at the low visibility intersection.

A pair of fatal crashes on Redding Road in 2020 and 2023 led to the effort to create the roundabout, which is part of a larger commitment in Fairfield to improve traffic and pedestrian safety throughout the town.

That commitment is the town’s Vision Zero Pledge, which was signed by Fairfield’s government department heads on Friday.

The Vision Zero Pledge is a national initiative that originally launched in Sweden in the 1990s, as a “strategy to eliminate all traffic fatalities and severe injuries, while increasing safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all.”
