Nearly Three Decades After His Community Was Driven Out, This Kashmiri Pandit Has Gone Back To His Roots

Life has come full circle for 70-year-old Roshan Lal Mawa, as he returned ‘home’ to Kashmir after 29 years to resume his family business.

Mawa, a Kashmiri Pandit was driven out of his homeland like most members of his community in the 1990s by Islamic extremists who wanted to demographically re-engineer the valley into a ‘Muslim-only area’.

But, on Wednesday, Mawa went back to where he rightfully belongs – to Kashmir and opened his new shop in Gada Kocha, a famous spice market in the heart of the old city of Srinagar.
