Much-needed win sends Jets tumbling in NFL draft order

ORCHARD PARK — Even when the Jets win, they lose.

The Jets may have helped their spirits with their 27-23 win over the Bills on Sunday, but they hurt their chances at getting the No. 1 pick in next spring’s NFL draft. The Jets currently sit at the No. 5 spot in the draft order, according to tankathon.com.

If the Jets had lost the game, they would have moved up to No. 1 after the 49ers and Raiders each won their games. The teams would have all had the same 3-10 record, along with the Cardinals, but the Jets have the weakest strength of schedule, which is the tiebreaker.

The Jets entered the day at No. 3, behind the 49ers and Raiders. The 49ers beat the Broncos and the Raiders beat the Steelers on Sunday.

Instead of having the inside track at the No. 1 pick, the Jets can bask in the glory of a December win over the Bills.
