Mark Sanchez’s return to field couldn’t have started better

It took Mark Sanchez only two weeks to go from being jobless to playing on “Monday Night Football.”

The former Jets quarterback took his first snaps in the league since January 2017 when he replaced an injured Colt McCoy with 9:36 to play in the second quarter of the Redskins game against the Eagles in Philadelphia on Monday night.

Things couldn’t have started better for Sanchez. On his first play from scrimmage, he handed the ball off to Adrian Peterson for a 90-yard touchdown run to help put the Eagles up 10-7. Sanchez finished the first half 6-for-9 passing for 62 yards. McCoy went to the locker room with a leg injury and was shown on TV limping considerably after getting an X-ray. He was later diagnosed with a fractured leg.

Sanchez, a former Eagle, received a standing ovation from some of the Philadelphia fans. He signed with the Redskins two weeks ago after they lost starting quarterback Alex Smith to a gruesome leg injury. Washington entered Monday a half-game behind the Cowboys for the NFC East lead.
