Mariah Carey declares Christmas is here in hilarious video
Smash your pumpkins and toss your costumes — holiday season has officially arrived!
The announcement was made by none other than the queen of Christmas herself, Mariah Carey, who uploaded a hilarious video on Twitter Friday morning to declare the death of Halloween and the revival of Yuletide cheer.
The 29-second clip starts with Carey, 49, falling asleep in her eighties rocker costume while her phone shows the time as 11:59 p.m. on Halloween. Then, as the clock strikes midnight on Nov. 1, a twinkling tune kicks in and Carey picks up a call from Santa.
“Santa!” Carey calls out, now in red Christmas pajamas. “Ho, Ho, Ho,” he’s heard responding. “Its time,” she sings back before letting out a joyous scream.
Her hit holiday song “All I Want for Christmas Is You” starts to play in the background as the video — captioned “Breaking news” with a snowflake emoji — comes to a close.
So far, the clip has racked up 339,000 likes and 142,000 retweets since it was uploaded overnight.
For weeks, Carey teased fans and stoked anticipation with posts that it was “#notyet” time to celebrate the season, making the video that much more sweet.
“OMMMMG FINALLY!!! love you Mariah,” one user commented.
The singer’s classic Christmas ballad — which is one of the very few modern songs to truly be accepted into the holiday music canon — also celebrated it’s 25th anniversary since being released on Oct. 29, 1994.

To mark the occasion, the pop icon also posted a 15-second clip on Twitter of previously unreleased footage showing her sledding in the snow as her song plays.
Meanwhile, the song continues to grow in popularity. Last December, it snagged the number three spot on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the first holiday song in 60 years to make the list’s top five.
Carey is honoring the milestone by playing five holiday shows at Las Vegas’ Colosseum at Caesars Palace, before performing a series of East Coast shows in Atlantic City, NJ, continuing on to Washington, D.C., Uncasville, Conn., Boston, Mass., and New York at Madison Square Garden starting Dec. 15.
“The Christmas shows are super festive,” Carey told USA Today. “I make it snow on stage – it’s an extravaganza.”
Despite the two and half decades since she first released the tune, Carey told the outlet that it feels like yesterday.
“It’s very much like I live in the land of the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus,” she said. “I don’t acknowledge time, I don’t know what it is. I rebuke it!”
