'Maria Sharapova can easily go through Caroline Wozniacki' – Tarpischev

In an interview withTASS the Russias Tennis Federation chief commented on chances at the Australian Open. Tarpischev believes that in a potential third round meeting against the defending champion , the five-time Grand Slam winner may start as a favorite.

Sharapova is in a normal pool [of opponents] and although she may possibly face in the 3rd round Caroline Wozniacki, she can easily handle her, said Tarpischev. Sharapova is capable of easily reaching the 4th round if everything is all right with the first serve.

She needs to serve at 70% and maintain the serve as well as to play without setbacks. Twelve players in womens singles competition of the tournament are vying for the victory. They are all in fever to win and it is impossible to predict who would be the champion.

Meanwhile interviewed by TV2 the tennis expert instead said Wozniacki looks the favorite: I do not think Sharapova is the worst. She is not the player that she was at all. She was the best tennis player in the world and she dominated a lot of big tournaments and she even won them.

But I do not think she is where she should be. On Wozniackis first round opponent, Alison Van Uytvanck, Bastiansen added: It could have not probably gone better. If we picked a player, probably she was among the 10-20 players that suited to Wozniacki.

She also lost in the Australian Open first round last year. Even if she won some tournaments, she should not be a player that becomes a problem for Wozniacki even if the first round is always tough. ALSO READ: Rafael Nadal: Worse players than David Ferrer won a Grand Slam title
