Manalapan Dietitian Aims To Make Food & Nutrition Fun

MANALAPAN, NJ — Gianna Totillo has always been passionate about making food and nutrition fun.

Totillo, 25, of Manalapan, is a registered dietitian who helps clients throughout New Jersey and New York.

After getting her undergraduate degree from Rutgers University and a Masters Degree in Nutritional Sciences from St. Elizabeth University, Totillo said she found a passion for using food science to help people with their nutrition at the one-on-one level.

“I’ve always, to some degree, worked in a clinical setting as a dietitian,” Totillo said. “But I feel like there’s a passion and niche that I bring to the table and it’s been hard to find my spot in the field with that niche.”

After searching for her own place within the nutrition field, Totillo decided to do the next best thing — she created her own platform called The Diva Dietitian.

“I figured, let me just launch my own platform and be a great go-to place for people,” Totillo said. “My goal is to make food and nutrition fun to help people feel fabulous.”

While it was Totillo’s passion for nutrition that led her to launch the Diva Dietitian, she also aims to be a source of reliable information for people amidst TikTok trends and dieting tips that may perpetuate misinformation.

“Such an important part of what dietitians do is that instead of looking at an overall population or group of people — which you can do to some degree — we can work with people on an individual level,” Totillo said. “And because we have that clinical background, we’re able to look at medical history, family history, important labs, medications and we can help make individualized nutrition recommendations based on that.”

“That’s why it’s so important for people to steer clear of these trending products and diets,” Totillo continued. “Because what works for one person or group of people may be contraindicated for another person or group of people.”

With the Diva Dietitian, Totillo offers one-on-one sessions, crash courses, group coaching, webinars and more. As part of the weight management dietetic practice group, Totillo works primarily in weight management as well as other clinical nutrition topics.

For those who are unsure of where to start with their nutrition journey, Totillo offers an initial session where clients can go over their current lifestyle and future goals.

“Sometimes people like one-on-one counseling for more specific needs and sometimes people find it beneficial to be in a group setting with those who are in the same boat,” Totillo said. “It’s really just what you’re looking for and what works best for you.”

Alongside individual and group sessions, Totillo also posts nutrition tips on various subjects and allows people to ask questions or share advice with one another.

According to Totillo, the Diva Dietitian not only aims to help people, but also looks to provide space for online community.

“This is something I love – it’s my platform, my content and when I put it out there, I get to help people,” Totillo said. “It’s really rewarding to help people who want to see me and be a local resource in the community.”
