Man Slashes Live-In Partner’s Face, Slits Throat, Finger In Delhi, Arrested From Punjab

The Delhi Police has arrested a man from Punjab for the murder of his live-in partner in the national capital’s Tilak Nagar area.

The victim, identified as Rekha Rani, a resident of Ganesh Nagar, was found dead in her residence, which she shared with her 16-year-old daughter and her live-in partner since 2015, on Thursday.

Manpreet Singh, Rani’s live-in partner who fled the home after the murder, was arrested from Patiala on Friday.

Living together since 2015

According to the police, Singh, a native of Alipur, Patiala, who was previously married in 2006 and had two children met Rani through a common friend. In 2015, the duo started living together in her Delhi residence.

Singh used to work as a second-hand car dealer, but police said he was selling stolen cars using forged documents.

He is allegedly involved in six cases, including kidnapping for ransom, attempt to murder, arms act and forgery.

Police said that the duo had been fighting over several reasons recently.

Singh wanted to go back to his wife

Rani reportedly suspected that Singh was trying to get closer to his wife and family in Punjab.

She started feeling insecure and stopped Singh to talk to his family or let him visit them. Singh felt that he was trapped in the relationship with Rani and planned to eliminate her, the police said.

Singh had recently purchased a cleaver knife, which he used to kill Rani on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

According to the police, Rani’s body was found with multiple incise wounds on her face and neck and her right finger was mutilated.

Daughter finds out mother is killed 

The murder came to light after Rani’s 16-year-old daughter woke up and felt something was suspicious.

Singh, whom Rani’s daughter calls uncle, gave her pills for migraine and told her to go to sleep. 

When she grew suspicious, she asked Singh the whereabouts of her mother, and he told her that she had gone to the market. She called her cousin about this incident and left for her house in Paschim Vihar. They called the police for help and found their Ganesh Nagar house locked.

By the time police reached the spot and found the body, Singh had fled the scene in his car.

Accused arrested from Punjab

According to the police, the accused fled to Punjab in his car after killing her. He was evading his arrest. Technical surveillance was mounted and efforts were made to trace the accused with the help of specialized technical investigation and the accused was traced in Punjab.

The accused’s car was tracked through toll barriers and the accused was apprehended from his native village in Punjab.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Ghanshyam Bansal Singh has been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender).
