The Poughkeepsie Journal is reporting that the storied Mid-Hudson Civic Center will be renamed after Majed J. Nesheiwat, founder and CEO of Gas Land Petroleum. The venue was a frequent stop on the tour schedule of WWE, and the filming location for WWF Championship Wrestling from 1984 until the program ended in 1986. It was also a frequent stop in the early days of WWF RAW.
The venue is most notable for being the location of Miss Elizabeth’s WWF debut on July 30th, 1985 (the show aired on August 24th of that year). The Mid-Hudson Civic Center is also where The US Express (Mike Rotunda & Barry Windham) regained the WWF Tag Team Championship, after losing the belts to Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff at the inaugural WrestleMania. The venue has also been used for a TNA One Night Only event called Old School. Most recently the venue was home to IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega’s Nov. 9th debut for Northeast Wrestling.
