Las Vegas Shooting Victims' Therapy Dog Shot In WA

BELLINGHAM, WA – A therapy dog owned by a couple who survived the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival in Las Vegas last October was recently shot and killed. Lona and Joseph Johnson’s neighbor has been cited for shooting the dog, according to the Bellingham Herald.

According to the Herald’s report, the Johnsons were at the Route 91 festival with their cousin, Melinda Brockie, who was one of the 58 people killed in mass shooting. The Johnsons got Jax, a labradoodle, to deal with post-traumatic stress disorder related to the shooting.

Jax died last Sunday morning, according to the Herald. The Johnsons’ neighbor, Odin Maxwell, said he shot Jax because the dog was chasing his chickens. Whatcom County Sheriff Chief Deputy Kevin Hester told the Herald that Maxwell was reckless in the way he fired his shotgun at Jax.
