Kerala Man Who Murdered, Buried Wife At Home Arrested After 17 Months
A 48-year-old man in Kerala’s Ernakulam district was arrested on Thursday for murdering his wife and burying her in the courtyard of his house 17 months back while claiming she had run away.

Sajeevan was taken into custody after three days of questioning by the police over the perplexing disappearance of his 32-year-old wife, Remya, on August 16, 2021.

Killed wife in a fit of rage
As per reports, Sajeevan finally confessed to police that he and his wife, Remya, had a confrontation over her phone calls on the fateful day. In a fit of rage, he strangulated her to death.
After her death, Sajeevan kept the deceased wife’s body in his house during the daytime. At night, he dug a pit near the car porch and buried her there.
Fabricated story evolved over time
Later he told his children that their mother had left with another man and asked them to keep it a secret, telling them that a reveal would affect the future of all.
Eventually, he coached his children to say she had gone to pursue a course in Bengaluru to fetch a job abroad.
In February last year, Sajeevan lodged a missing person report with the Njarackal police, but Remya’s brother was unconvinced and he filed a complaint with the police. However, no progress in the case was made since then.

Case was analysed after recent murder
The case took a turn when Kerala Police reopened all missing cases after the alleged deaths of two women reportedly murdered as part of a human sacrifice ritual.
In the case from last year, dismembered bodies of the women were recovered from a house in the Pathanamthitta district.

Since then, a special investigation unit of cops had kept Sajeevan under close watch and he was called in for questioning several times.
Early this week, the police sensed that he was hiding something and grilled him extensively, leading him to break down and confess to having murdered his wife.
According to police, Sajeevan was only arrested after scientific evidence was gathered from the exhumed mortal remains.
The accused, who continued to stay in the house after committing the murder, was reportedly preparing for another marriage. He had convinced his relatives and locals that his wife had left with someone else.
