Kamala Harris raises $12 million as campaign continues to surge
Kamala Harris raised nearly $12 million during the second quarter of the Democratic primary — giving her a financial boost after a fiery debate exchange with Joe Biden.
The California Democrat’s presidential campaign received donations from more than 279,000 individuals, who donated an average of $39, overall for the quarter, according to the Huffington Post.
Harris could not top Indiana mayor Pete Buttigieg, 37, whose campaign said earlier this week he raked in $24.8 million in the second quarter.
Former Vice President Biden raised $21.5 million for his presidential bid since entering the race on April 25. Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders collected $18 million in the second quarter.
Harris confronted Biden about the issue of race during the June 27 Democratic debate.
“I do not believe you are racist,” Harris told Biden. “But I also believe, and it is personal — it was hurtful to hear you talk about the reputations of two United States senators who built their reputations and careers on the segregation of race in this country.”
