Jon Gruden’s Raiders GM hunt is not off to a promising start

Jon Gruden has done his best to tear apart the Raiders, so why not bring the beleaguered Redskins president aboard to help out?

After the Raiders’ first-year head coach won the power struggle and forced out general manager Reggie McKenzie on Monday, one of the first names floated by NFL.com to replace him was Redskins president Bruce Allen.

Allen previously worked with Gruden as a front-office executive in Oakland (during Gruden’s first stint there) and was his general manager in Tampa Bay, so the two have plenty of history together. They are also alike in the pressure they are currently under, with Allen presiding over a Redskins team that just signed linebacker Reuben Foster, who had been released by the 49ers after getting arrested for domestic violence.

In April, a USA Today poll of agents tabbed Allen as the least-trusted decision-maker in the NFL.

The Redskins are 58-82-1 under Allen’s watch — and currently crumbling out of a playoff spot with two quarterbacks sidelined by broken legs — but their fans may not be able to get rid of him that easily.

NFL Network reported that Allen wouldn’t be “on the front burner” for the Raiders, while 106.7 The Fan in Washington reported that Gruden “has zero interest” in hiring Allen and “does not hold him in high regard at all.”
