Johanna Konta: 'We will wait decades to see a person like Andy Murray'

In a pre-tournament Australian Open press conference commented on decision to retire from professional tennis this year, probably at the Australian Open or Wimbledon.

Konta praised Murray as a person, having been a vocal supporter of the female tennis players rights. There has been so many examples of when he has stood up for us not just for womens tennis but women, in general, I think he has also been blessed with two daughters so I think hes grown up with a really strong female role model with his mum as well and I now his wife is also a strong character so he is surrounded by great strong women, said Konta.

He has put that through in the way he has voiced his opinions and the way he has tackled some questions and issues that have arisen and I think everybody has always been very appreciative of him and how he has stood up for the womens side of the game.

I think he has got many different qualities and layers about him some of which we dont even know but what has come through is I think first and foremost is the way he has competed throughout his whole career. Thats something which is very unique to him and we will probably be waiting decades for another person to be like that.
