The Jets offense has produced three touchdowns in its past five games, and now it may be without starting running back Isaiah Crowell.
Coming off his best game in two months, a 98-yard breakthrough Sunday against the Titans on 21 carries, the veteran’s status for this weekend at Buffalo is in doubt.
Talk about Murphy’s Law being in effect for this anemic unit.
Crowell has yet to practice this week with a toe injury and could be out, leaving the running back duties to youngsters Elijah McGuire and Trenton Cannon.
“It’s a concern. He missed two days,” coach Todd Bowles said. “Obviously, it’s bothering him.”
Bowles said Crowell likely will be a game-time decision. If he can’t play, the Jets could call up a running back from the practice squad.
QB Sam Darnold (foot) practiced fully for the second straight day and is expected to start Sunday after missing the past three games. But Bowles wasn’t ready to make an announcement on Thursday.
Left tackle Kelvin Beachum was nominated as the Jets’ Walter Payton Man of the Year representative, an award that recognizes community service. His focuses include ending hunger, giving those in need clean water and providing academic opportunities for young minorities in connection with the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Education Coalition.
“It’s huge. It’s a blessing for my name even to be associated with the Walter Payton Man of the Year award,” he said. “I realized that I can find a way to be able to give back to those who experienced some of those things that I experienced as a kid.”
WR Quincy Enunwa (ankle) and LB Darron Lee (no injury listed) practiced fully after being limited Wednesday. WR Robby Anderson (ankle), TE Jordan Leggett (knee) and QB Josh McCown (back) were limited.
