Ice Rink Seeks Approval To Serve Alcohol During Events
CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — The Crystal Ice House opened Time Out Tap, a bar inside the former pro shop at the rink, last fall.
At that time, the Crystal Lake City Council approved alcohol sales inside the Time Out Tap and in the lobby area of the Ice House, 320 E. Prairie Street, during specified hours. The hours approved at the time was: 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday and tournament weekends.
Now the Crystal Ice House is requesting extended hours to accommodate changes in operations at the Crystal Ice House, which will include additional hockey tournaments, figure skating events, an expanded holiday skating schedule and other events.

“With the addition of Time Out Tap, the Crystal Ice House has improved the venue’s appeal to tournament organizers and has increased the rink’s ability to expand their operation to support and host new hockey tournaments and expand their special events schedule,” Brian Bell, co-owner of the Crystal Ice House, wrote in a letter to city of Crystal Lake officials.
Bell and Chandler Boyd, founders and co-owners of the Time Out Tap, are requesting city officials approve extended hours, which would change the opening of the bar to 7 a.m. on tournament weekends and during special events and to 10 a.m. during public skate hours and during the rink’s public skate.

Alcohol cannot be purchased from the Time Out Tap and brought outside and outside alcohol cannot be brought into the facility, according to city documents.
The Crystal Lake City Council will vote on the changes to the Class 18 liquor license during its Tuesday night meeting.
