‘I have only learnt…’: Akash Madhwal reveals the lesson learnt from tennis ball cricket
Akash Madhwal bowled an impressive spell on Wednesday as Mumbai Indians beat Lucknow by 81 runs and took one step closer to the summit clash.
Batting first, Mumbai Indians scored 182/8 in 20 overs, but Madhwal’s incredible figures of 3.3-0-5-5 and some terrific ground fielding led by skipper Rohit Sharma saw Gautam Gambhir mentored side crumble for a paltry 101 in 16.3 overs.
Little-known Uttarakhand engineer Madhwal bowled a dream spell and took five wickets to enhance his reputation, having been a tennis ball cricketer until age 23.
Speaking on what he has learnt from tennis, ball cricket, Madhwal said,” I have only learnt yorkers (laughs), and I implement that. That is because, in tennis ball cricket, only a yorker can save a bowler, or else if you miss your lengths, then it goes for a six. So yorkers need to be perfect, and I do the same here.”

Madhwal reassured his skipper’s faith in him by doing the basics right. “I pitched the ball on hard lengths. But as a bowler, my strengths are yorkers, and skipper Rohit Sharma used me wherever the team needed it most. He had confidence in my abilities and used my bowling as per the game’s needs,” he said in the post-match press conference.
” I have been practicing a lot and waiting for my opportunity. I have done engineering, cricket is my passion and I have been waiting for this since 2018. When we practice in the nets, the management gives us the target and we try to execute our best. Hoping to do well in the coming games and want to end up as champions,” Madhwal had said after the match.
