Hurricane Dorian has caused 4 fatalities in the US

A Florida landscaper was electrocuted while trimming trees at a local hotel, a medical examiner said Thursday — bringing to four the number of storm-related deaths in the US.

The 38-year-old man worked for a company hired by a Naples, Fla., hotel to clear trees in preparation for the storm, which was then bearing down on the Florida coastline.

The unidentified landscaper cut into power lines as he cleared the trees, said Jailene Hernandez, an investigator for the Collier County medical examiner.

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper said Wednesday an 85-year-old man in Columbus County was killed when he fell from a ladder while preparing his home for the storm.

Two other Florida men died while preparing their homes for the storm, but details of those incidents were not available.

Dorian was causing power outages and heavy flooding — and spawning tornadoes — along the Carolinas on Thursday as it moved up the coast as a Category 2 storm.
