Hiroshi Tanahashi returning to the ring at NJPW BOSJ finals

Hiroshi Tanahashi made a surprise appearance at Wrestling Dontaku night two this morning, revealing when he’ll be returning from injury.

Tanahashi cut an in-ring promo and announced that he’ll be returning at NJPW’s Best of the Super Juniors finals event at Sumo Hall in Tokyo on June 5. Tanahashi mentioned that his goal after returning is to become IWGP Heavyweight Champion again.

Jay White and Gedo then interrupted Tanahashi. White said he should be next in line for an IWGP Heavyweight title shot, and Tanahashi is all the way in the back of the line. White attacked Tanahashi and tried to target his elbow, but the young lions who were at ringside stopped him.

A video of Chris Jericho aired at the end of Wrestling Dontaku night two, with Jericho saying he’ll be challenging for Kazuchika Okada’s IWGP Heavyweight Championship at Dominion on June 9.

Tanahashi has been out of action since facing Zack Sabre Jr. at G1 Supercard on April 6. It was announced that Tanahashi would have to miss the Road to Wrestling Dontaku tour and both Wrestling Dontaku shows due to a left elbow injury. Tanahashi had surgery for the injury last month.
