On Thursday, WWE announced that Hideo Itami has suffered a neck injury and as a result, will be forced to pull out of the ongoing Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament.
Itami, who was scheduled to team with Kota Ibushi in the second annual NXT tournament, announced the news himself via a video released across WWE’s social media channels (see above).
Additionally, Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com is reporting that the ocurred during a tag-team match at the NXT live event in Largo, Florida that saw Itami team with NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura against Tino Sabbatelli and Riddick Moss.
The spot in the match where Itami was injured took place when Moss powerslammed him and spiked his head on the mat. You can view video footage Itami’s injury spot from the 10/1 live event below.
WWE has yet to announce what they plan to do regarding Kota Ibushi and the void in the 2016 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament.
