Giants’ quarterback options if they part ways with Eli Manning

If not Eli Manning, then whom?

That is the question the Giants must ask themselves as they determine if they want Manning back for a 16th season. They need a starting quarterback in 2019, either Manning or someone else. The options are not particularly appetizing. Here’s a look at a few possibilities:

Free agency

Teddy Bridgewater: Incredibly, he is only 26 years old but his so-so start in Week 17 for the Saints was his first real game action since 2015. Once a rising star, no one knows for sure if he is fully healed from the gruesome knee injury he suffered before the 2016 season. He worked with Pat Shurmur in Minnesota.

Nick Foles: It is highly unlikely the Eagles will trigger a mutual option that would pay Foles $20 million in 2019, and so last year’s Super Bowl MVP, who once again subbed for Carson Wentz and led the Eagles into the playoffs, will hit the open market. Foles turns 30 this month and worked with Shurmur in Philadelphia. He will not come cheap.

Tyrod Taylor: Taylor lasted only three games as the starter in Cleveland before the Baker Mayfield era was ushered in. Previously, he started for three years in Buffalo and is mobile and accurate, but not particularly dynamic. Taylor, 29, has 53 touchdown passes and only 20 interceptions in his career.

NFL draft

Dwayne Haskins: The Ohio State sophomore likely will be the first quarterback off the board in what is considered an extremely lean year for quarterbacks. Haskins has not yet declared for the draft and could opt to return to school. He set a Big Ten record with 50 touchdown passes this season and has a big arm, but is not considered ready to be a Week 1 starter in the NFL.
