Former Gurkha soldier fighting to fulfill his dream after Nepal bans amputees from climbing Everest
A former Gurkha soldier who had both his legs amputated after being injured serving in Afghanistan, says he will keep fighting to fulfill his dreams of climbing Mount Everest, after they dashed by the Nepalese government.
Hari Budha Magar, 38, from Kent, has been training for the last 18 months with an experienced mountaineering team but had to fly back to the UK from Nepal after the Kathmandu government announced a ban on double amputees – as well as blind people and solo climbers – tackling the world’s highest peak, earlier this month.
