Florida man missing in Costa Rica last seen with local gigolo
A Florida man who was last seen with a gigolo while on vacation in Costa Rica has gone missing, according to reports.
Charlie Hughes, 62, mysteriously disappeared Aug. 3 on a trip to Puerto Jimenez, where he was staying at a hotel with a man he met three weeks earlier, news station WFLA reported.
The Tampa retiree’s family said he suddenly vanished and left behind most of his belongings in the hotel room.
But soon after his disappearance, his rental car was discovered submerged in a local river, WFLA reported.
Local authorities investigating Hughes’ disappearance said his companion was a gigolo, WFLA reported. The man is believed to be the last person to see Hughes alive.
“We know, we’re convinced that the guy seen with Charlie, the last one to see him alive, we know he’s involved,” his sister, Nancy Steffens, told WFLA. “We know it. He knows what happened to my brother.”

Steffens said she’s frustrated with the lack of progress in the case, claiming authorities have fed the family bogus explanations regarding her brother’s disappearance.
“We know truth is out there, and we’re not getting it,” Steffens said.
She has since called on local lawmakers to help her search for her brother.
“Our family is not going to stop. They don’t know our family,” she told the news station. “We’re hard-headed, we’re determined, we’re going to find out the truth, find out what happened.”
