Fire Displaces Residents At Alsip Apartment Complex

ALSIP, IL — A fire displaced residents of an apartment building Thursday afternoon in Alsip. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.

The initial call of a fire came in around 4:05 p.m. at Crestline Villa Apartments, 4225 W. 115th St. When Alsip firefighters arrived, flames were shooting out of a roof and windows from the second and third floor of a six-unit building on Villa Court.

Neighbors on the Families of Alsip Facebook page posted that the smoke was so thick, they couldn’t see down the street.

Chief Tom Styczynski, of the Alsip Fire Department, said the second and third floor units on one side of the 6-unit building sustained extensive damage.

“There was water damage in the first floor unit from water coming down from the second floor,” Styczynski said. “Smoke damage affected the hallway across the whole second and third floor.”

A tenant of one of the affected units told Patch that the fire may have originated in the kitchen. When asked if that had been confirmed, Styczynski said that investigators were conducting interviews with tenants impacted by the fire.

The fire chief added that Red Cross was on the way to assist residents of the building.

Crestwood, Palos Heights Oak Lawn fire departments provided assistance in striking the fire, with Merrionette Park providing ambulance service.
