Fancy Country Club Pool Project Approved In West Hartford
WEST HARTFORD, CT — An exclusive country club in West Hartford is about to overhaul its world-class pool offerings after the town’s zoning board approved plans earlier this month.
The West Hartford Plan & Zoning Commission July 1 unanimously approved a special permit allowing The Hartford Golf Club, 134 Norwood Road, West Hartford, to reconfigure its existing pool area and build a new swimming pool.
Following a public hearing, the PZC approved the measure 5-0, with some conditions.

Those conditions are standard with any permit approvals and deal with erosion/sediment control/drainage, as well as compliance with town building codes.
The club will go back before the PZC in July 2026 so zoning board members can evaluate the club’s compliance with the permit.

According to a project narrative submitted to the town by Langan Engineering & Environmental Services of New Haven, which is representing the club, there are several components to the project.
Those include a new pool, renovations to the existing pool facility, and a new “lifeguard shack” to serve as a base of operations for lifeguard staff, according to Langan.
In addition, according to Langan, the project will require relocation of water and sewer lines that are under the current pool.
When complete, the site will be re-landscaped with various forms of vegetation.
” Disturbed areas will be replanted with native or adapted vegetation including evergreens, flowering shrubs, perennials, and native grasses,” wrote Langan to the town.
The Hartford Golf Club is a 256-acre, private country club featuring 27 holes of golf, swimming amenities, tennis/squash courts, a four-lane duckpin bowling allwey and a fitness center.
