Tennis – has had her share of fans over the years, including the Genie Army – but 22-year-old Jeffrey Kinder has got to be one of the biggest fans of the Canadian tennis star. Kinder has been following Bouchards matches in Auckland all this week and held out a major banner which read, win or lose, Genie forever
Kinder, who hails from Sydney, said he waited outside Bouchards hotel last week in order to see her arrive at the event and also spent nearly 20 hours on the banner. And her surely did catch the attention of Bouchard, as the Canadian tennis player tweeted a picture of Kinder with the banner, and called him her new boyfriend, and may also get Kinder some tickets to the womens doubles final on Sunday.
Bouchard had kind words to speak about her fan, Its really special to see them wearing t-shirts that say my name on it and specifically one fan who I gave a hug to after doubles today. His name is Jeffrey and hes actually from Sydney and he travels to almost all of my tournaments in this area of the world, so I just appreciate his support so much.
Its amazing. Tennis is so universal so its really cool for people to watch and enjoy it, its an honour. All the security guards were freaking out. I was like I just wanted to give you a hug He travelled here, and hes here alone and hes just watching my matches all day long.
He watched like five hours of tennis today. I dont know, when I see someone make an effort like that its really special. If I was a kid would I ever think someone would fly to go see me play tennis like this – life is crazy.
I just like to give back. My fans know that I love them and I care about them, so I wanna spend as much time as I can with them. Bouchard lost in the quarter-finals of the ASB Classic in Auckland on Friday, going down to Julia Georges in a third set tie-breaker.
She is through to the womens doubles final on Sunday with partner Sofia Kenin and the duo will meet Paige Hourigan/ Taylor Townsend.
