FRIDAY NEWS UPDATE

We’ve got a busy weekend. Garrett Gonzales and I will be doing today’s show before Smackdown and AEW, so we will cover those shows tomorrow night, plus Sunday is Hell in a Cell.

It would appear that SummerSlam has about 33,000 tickets out as of early afternoon.

Smackdown tonight at 8 p.m. lists Roman Reigns vs. Rey Mysterio in a Universal title Hell in a Cell match, Apollo Crews & Commander Azeez vs. Kevin Owens & Big E, Otis vs. Angelo Dawkins, and Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Baron Corbin for the crown.

The Mysterio vs. Reigns match tonight is rescheduling the PPV match. It’s just a decision they made. We are told that Reigns is not wrestling on the PPV so this is not an angle to build a rematch. The Mysterios are also not wrestling the Usos on Sunday either. The match and finish planned for Sunday moved up two days.

AEW tonight at 10 p.m. on TNT:

Jim Ross interviews Andrade
Julia Hart vs. Penelope Ford
Orange Cassidy vs. Cezar Bononi
Brock Anderson & Cody Rhodes vs. QT Marshall & Aaron Solow
Darby Allin vs. Ethan Page & Scorpio Sky handicap match
Jake Hager vs. Wardlow MMA cage match

CMLL has a free show on YouTube tomorrow at 7 p.m. Eastern time from Arena Mexico featuring Cuatrero & Forastero & Sanson defending the trios titles against Mistico & Caristico & Volador Jr. This was originally to combat the Federacion show that ended up canceled, but they are still going through with the show.  This will also stream on Twitch.

Regarding the issues with TSN and AEW in Canada, TSN’s online schedule listed AEW but the TV on-screen guide listed other programs the last two weeks and were never corrected. This week they also listed another program but it was corrected on Thursday afternoon. (thanks to Jeff Zinger)

If you watched last night’s PFL robbery where Gleison Tibau, who most feel didn’t win a round, won a split decision somehow, judges Cardo Uro and Dave Tirelli gave him rounds one and three. Eric Colon, the third judge, gave Tibau round three as well. On the show, they have a computer score, a fan score, and scores by Kenny Florian and Randy Couture and all gave MacDonald all three rounds. He was visibly stunned and the announcers said that was no way you could justify that result.

OTHER NOTES
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. missed weight today for his boxing match in Guadalajara against Anderson Silva. He weighed 184.4 pounds in a fight contracted at 182. Chavez must forfeit $100,000 to Silva. Chavez had a great explanation. He thought he was fighting at 185 since Slva always fights at 185. Well, he does, but the idea that a guy doesn’t know the weight he’s contracted to make is not plausible.
