Chelsea aim to keep up the pressure on Manchester City and Liverpool when they take on Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.

If the Blues win and Southampton pull off a shock result against City in the 3pm GMT (10am ET) kick off, Chelsea will find themselves top of the Premier League.

Even if City do beat the Saints, the west Londoners will still leapfrog Liverpool on goal difference with a win today.

Palace on the other hand are aiming to put further distance between themselves and the relegation zone, and will take confidence from their 2-2 draw with Arsenal last weekend.

Chelsea come into the game fresh from a midweek Carabao Cup win over Frank Lampard’s Derby County and a 4-0 thrashing of Burnley at Turf Moor last Sunday.

Maurizio Sarri will have been pleased with the way his side coped without the Premier League’s top scorer Eden Hazard, scoring 10 goals in the three games since the forward picked up a knock. Midfielders Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley stepped up to fill the 27-year-old’s shoes while Willian and Morata also got on the scoresheet against Burnley. 

After comfortably surpassing a physical team that likes to play direct football last week, Chelsea will be confident of repeating the trick at home. Palace’s momentum has somewhat stalled in recent weeks as the south London club have lost four of their last five games in all competitions. 

Roy Hodgson’s outfit face Tottenham and Manchester United in their next two fixtures after the Blues clash, so they could do with taking some sort of points return from Stamford Bridge to maintain their grip on safety. The Eagles currently sit in 14th place, just three points above the drop zone, so if they lose three in three they could find themselves in a sticky situation.

Wilfried Zaha will be pivotal for the visitors. The winger has been involved in four of Palace’s seven Premier League goals this term.
