Burlington Shoplifter Tumbles To Ground During Her Arrest: JPD
JOLIET — A 39-year-old Joliet woman named Tiera McDonald is now at the Will County Jail facing charges of felony retail theft, resisting a peace officer, obstructing justice, possession of a controlled substance, bringing or possessing contraband in a penal institution and also having an outstanding Will County arrest warrant.
McDonald comes from apartment units in the 200 block of Joliet’s Nicholson Street. This marks her fourth time in the Will County Jail since June.
Joliet police say Sunday’s arrest of McDonald happened at the North Ridge Plaza on Larkin Avenue.

According to police spokesman Dwayne English, at 7:54 p.m. Sunday, an officer was on patrol near the parking lot of the Burlington store at 1300 North Larkin Ave. when an employee exited the store and reported that a woman had just committed a retail theft and was walking away through the parking lot.
The employee pointed out the woman, who was later identified as McDonald. The officer approached McDonald and commanded her to stop, and she refused, according to English.

Police say McDonald began to drop items she was carrying to the ground. The officer caught up to McDonald and tried to place her into custody, at which time McDonald continued to pull away and twist her body, causing both her and the officer to fall to the ground, English said.
The officer was then able to place McDonald into custody without further incident.
English said that McDonald is accused of stealing over $300 worth of clothing from the store prior to contact with the officer.

Following the arrest, McDonald indicated that she was pregnant. She was then taken to St. Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department. However, she refused treatment at the hospital, so she was driven back to the Joliet Police Department.
Officers determined she also held a Will County warrant for failing to appear in court for prior theft charges. McDonald was taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility, where correctional guards searched her and recovered suspected cocaine, English said.
