This years Australian Open will definitely be a very important tournament for as the Czech needs to defend the 360 points he earned last year. Berdych lost to in the quarter-finals.
Berdych started his season on a high note, by reaching the final of the Qatar Open in Doha (lost to Roberto Bautista Agut). In press conference, the former world no. 4 said: Its definitely a great start for me. As I said, six months has been a long time and winning four matches in a row, thats great for the confidence, thats exactly what Ive needed.
Im not sure if I was like seeing this coming, but its a nice bonus and I definitely appreciate it. But still I have to stay very humble, very patient because its been just the first week of the season, so theres no need for any huge expectations and stuff like that.
So really keep on going, doing it week-by-week, match-by-match. And Australia is one of my favorite Slams. I always did well. So Im looking forward to the place and I will try to carry on on this momentum and play a great tournament there.
Analyzing his loss to Bautista Agut, Berdych added: The game plan was being aggressive, playing my tennis, which has been very good and very solid throughout the whole week and I was just besides the one game, I was sticking well with the plan and overall Im happy.
Im not satisfied because satisfied would be after winning a title, but Im happy with the week. It was a good week overall and thats it, lets move on. Coming after six months of not playing this really – my expectations were completely on a different level.
But, you know, tennis is a beautiful sport and all the experience that I had from the past and all the hard work that I did throughout my pre-season just pays off and Im really happy with the way the week went. And, yeah, lets move on to Australia.
