Bandit On Bicycle Stole Laundry Detergent From Walgreens: Joliet PD

JOLIET — The Joliet Police Department announced that a 36-year-old retail store thief named William Nobles used his bicycle to make his getaway and was later captured and taken into custody on charges of retail theft, obstructing a peace officer and resisting a peace officer.

The arrest of Nobles took place on Tuesday during the lunch hour.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, the following events led to Nobles’ being arrested on the east side of Joliet:

At 12:56 p.m., the officers responded to the Walgreens at 358 East Cass Street for a retail theft. Officers learned that Nobles had entered the store and selected over $80 in merchandise including two large containers of laundry detergent and he exited the store without paying.

Nobles then fled the area on a bicycle. Officers in the area located Nobles riding a bike while carrying the detergent at Scott Street and Cass Street. Nobles ignored commands to stop and continued to ride his bicycle.

Nobles dropped his bicycle at Cass Street and Chicago Street and continued to walk away, ignoring commands to stop. An officer caught up to Nobles and attempted to place him into custody, at which time Nobles refused to place his arms behind his back, English noted.

Nobles was taken to the ground and was placed into custody without further incident. The merchandise was returned to the store.

Nobles was later released from the Joliet police station after being given his notice to appear in Will County court.
