At least Baker Mayfield has one member of the Worldwide Leader in his corner.
After taking down the Browns quarterback Monday on “First Take,” Damien Woody posted a video to Twitter, elaborating his stance in support of Bengals’ special assistant Hue Jackson.
“To Baker and all his fanboys out there, listen up. I’m going to make this real quick and real simple for all y’all. Hue Jackson was fired. Get it? Unemployed, fired, no job. If that man wanted to go work for the Cincinnati Bengals, who the hell are you to try to dictate where that man should work?” Woody stated.
“Y’all won the game yesterday. You won the game. So why you concerned about Hue Jackson and where Hue Jackson is working at?”
Woody’s colleague, Will Cain, quickly followed up with a video of his own, defending Mayfield after the quarterback’s postgame comments about his former coach after Cleveland’s 35-20 win.
“To Damien Woody and all his fanboys, Baker Mayfield’s not dictating where Hue Jackson can work, he’s judging Hue Jackson for the choices he’s made and going to a competitor,” Cain explained. “Baker is, in the end, a competitor. So can we please stop with the he’s gotta feed his family, as though Hue Jackson’s down to his final couple dollars on putting meal on the plate. This guy’s a millionaire, still getting paid by the Browns to work for the Bengals.”
Jackson was fired by the Browns in October, later taking a job on Marvin Lewis’ Cincinnati staff. Jackson attempted to embrace this year’s first-overall draft pick on the field Sunday, but Mayfield shook his hand instead.
“Left Cleveland, goes down to Cincinnati. I don’t know. That’s just somebody that’s in our locker room asking for us to play for him and then goes to a different team we play twice a year. Everybody can have their spin on it, but that’s how I feel,” Mayfield said.
The Browns face the Bengals on Dec. 23.
