AXS TV has announced that their New Japan Pro Wrestling series has been renewed for a second 12-episode season premiering May 22nd. The current season wraps up next Friday (4/10) and will feature A.J. Styles vs. Okada for the IWGP World championship from May 2014.
Season 2 kicks off May 22nd with matches from last year’s “Best of the Super Juniors” tournament. The additional episodes feature “a combined eight hours of comprehensive coverage of the 24th annual G1 Climax Tournament, including full matches and highlights,” as well as three hours of coverage from the 2014 Dominion PPV.
Mauro Ranallo and former UFC Heavyweight Champion Josh Barnett will return as commentators.
AXS TV CEO Andrew Simon was quoted in the press release, “In the second cycle of New Japan Pro Wrestling on AXS TV, we will focus a majority of the episodes on G1 Climax 24, which was hailed by many as one of the best pro wrestling tournaments in history. We are thankful to New Japan Pro Wrestling and our programming partner TV Asahi in Japan for allowing us to acquire this unique series and share it with our audience.”
