ATP Doha – Wednesday Schedule: Novak Djokovic to play two matches!

Novak Djokovic will face Marton Fucsovics at the Qatar Exxon Mobil Open in Doha, for the second time in career. The Serbian player already beat Fucsovics at last years US Open in a complicated four-set match, on a very hot day in New York.

Djokovic had a stunning opening to his run in Doha, losing just three games against Damir Dzumhur. The Serbian is coming from his wins at the Mubadala Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi over Karen Khachanov and Kevin Anderson, and he is making his fourth appearance in Doha, where he first played in 2015.

Djokovic will comeback to court later to play doubles with his brother Marko, facing Dzumhur again and Dusan Lajovic. After Djokovic, the defending finalist Andrey Rublev will face Nikoloz Basilashvili. The Russian started his season on a high note here last year, but then he was influenced by injuries and he could not find consistency.

Basilashvili instead had his best season winning the German Open in Hamburg and the China Open in Beijing. In the end, Fernando Verdasco will face Tomas Berdych in what is set to be an interesting match. The Spaniard, who lives in Doha, is down 4-10 on the head to head meetings and they last faced each other in 2012 Madrid.

Stan Wawrinka defeated Nicolas Jarry on Thursday. Speaking about his win over Khachanov on Wednesday, the Swiss had said: I think it was a full match, a good match for sure. I always put pressure on myself but I have been practicing so well, I have been working really hard the last two months to know that my level is there and that if I look at the big picture, the full year, I will get some result if I keep working hard.

So today I think was a great start. The level was there. I was feeling good physically on the court and Im happy with that, thats the most important.
