In a recent interview to the local reporters at the Australian Open, commented on chances to conquer her 24th Grand Slam title in Melbourne. The Frenchman believes that Serena had a great 2018 season which can be an extra confidence boost in 2019. First of all, last year she made an incredible effort to come back in shape after having a baby and actually she came back in a decent shape quite fast, said Mouratoglou.
It was a big deal. She had a lot of medical issues after the delivery but she definitely was not 100 percent. She reached two Grand Slam finals. She was fit. I am knowing her now for a few years so I knew she could be much fitter but its just a question of time.
And I think shes fitter now. You can see it, its quite obvious when you see her on the court, how she moves. I think she came back to a very, very high level of fitness. So shes ready. Shes ready to compete and when Serenas ready to compete, shes ready to win.
Serena is the 16th seeded player and she could face the world No. 1 Simona Halep in the fourth round. But, like it happened last year, Mouratoglou believes that the seeding is not as important as people may think if Williams competes in her best way.
I feel when shes playing at her best, she*s the best player in the world, said Mouratoglou. Of course, shes not number one in the world, and I have a lot of respect for the number one but I still feel that if Serena plays her tennis and shes herself 100 percent, I still think shes the best.
But she has to show it now. I think it might happen. Well do everything for it to happen this year. ALSO READ: Rafael Nadal: Worse players than David Ferrer won a Grand Slam title
