Ansonia Blows Out Bloomfield For Class S Football Title
EAST HARTFORD, CT — Given Ansonia High School’s football legacy, a state championship in early to mid-December is about as common as Christmas in late December.
And that was no different Saturday, when the Chargers easily defeated the Bloomfield High School Warhawks, 58-12, in the CIAC Class S football state championship game.
Led by senior running back Quintez Whittle, who ran roughshod over Bloomfield’s beleaguered defense for four touchdowns, Ansonia dominated to win the school’s 22nd state title.

The game was played under bright, sunny morning skies, but the sub-freezing temperatures still evoked the look and feel of mid-winter at Pratt & Whitney Stadium (aka Rentschler Field), the University of Connecticut Huskies’ home stadium.
The second-seed Chargers, led by coach Thomas Brockett, entered the playoffs with a 9-1 regular season and were pursuing the program’s 22nd state championship.

After a Bloomfield three-and-out, Ansonia got the ball back in good field position and quickly drove down field on the legs of Whittle.
The Titans then further extended their lead with a 7-yard touchdown run by Whittle, who moved the pile several yards to power into the end zone, effectively ending the game.
A two-point conversion game the Chargers a 38-12 lead over the Warhawks with 7:15 left in the third quarter.
It got worse for Bloomfield on the ensuing kickoff, which was fumbled and recovered by Anonia.
