Alleged Ivy League killer’s mom says she ‘didn’t know he was this nuts’

“My son. He’s nuts, but I didn’t know he was this nuts.”

That’s what stricken Shelley Gilbert told a 911 operator when asked who shot her hedge-fund-manager husband in their Manhattan apartment in 2015.

Audio of the phone call was played in Manhattan Supreme Court on Tuesday as Gilbert’s son, Tommy Jr., went on trial for killing his dad.

The female operator had asked Shelley Gilbert who shot her husband, Thomas Gilbert Sr., after the woman discovered his body on the floor of their Beekman Place pad in a pool of blood.

During the 11-minute 911 call, Shelley, clearly in shock, spoke in a matter-of-fact tone.

At one point, a male operator walked her through performing chest compressions.

But Shelley could see the efforts were in vain.

“I can see he’s dead,” she said.

Shelley is expected to be the prosecution’s star witness, although arguing that her son belongs in a hospital because of mental issues instead of a prison.
